The GBP exists only because of the enthusiasm of our customers. While bike sales help pay the rent, they by no means cover all our expenses. To keep the GBP running strong we need help from the community. If you want to help there are several thing you can do.
First, spread the word. The more people who know about the project the better. Not only does more people knowing about the project help us get more bikes on the road, it also helps keep bikes out of the dumpster.
Second, trade or donate your old bike. While the GBP does buy bikes, we prefer to make sure that there are more bikes on the road. Donating and trading in bikes allows us to refurbish more bikes as well as keep costs down.
Third, give something back. While we'll never ask you for a donation (that defeats the purpose) we can always use the financial assistance. We've placed a can next to the register that says "Help us keep the lights on" and money donated does just that. The GBP costs several hundred dollars a month just to keep the lights on and the doors open. Every penny you can give is one penny less we have to recoup from bike sales.
Finally, volunteer. We know that not everyone has an extra bike or even extra cash to donate, but time is valuable too. Even if you've never worked in a bike shop before we always need help.
